
The month of March is recognized as "Music in Our Schools Month." Our band and color guard students were rewarded with box lunches from Chick-Fil-A for their efforts in the classroom, after school, and fundraising to make music happen in our school community. We are so proud and thankful for their hard work!


Students in Mrs. Malone's 7th grade Career Exploration classes were visited by Sherry Scruggs and Lorrie Wood from West Tennessee Healthcare in Milan, TN. Mrs. Scruggs is the CEO of Milan Hospital and a nurse. Mrs. Wood is the CNO of Milan Hospital and also a nurse. Both speakers took time to educate students about what it takes to be successful in healthcare today and exposed them to many different healthcare jobs. Students learned about radiology, lab technicians, respiratory therapists, physical therapists, speech therapists, occupational therapists, pharmacists, physicians, family nurse practitioners, and nurses.



Mr. Sammy Gilley is the father of two SGCMS students, Luke and Danny, and the 26th District Judicial Drug Task Force Commander. He spoke to students in 6th grade Career Exploration about his career in law enforcement including time spent working on patrol, street crimes, gang enforcement, and the narcotics unit. He talked to students about the importance of not doing drugs, choosing friends who are a good example, and how important writing is to so many jobs including police work. Thank you to Mr. Gilley for his hard work and positive influence.




Students in the 8th grade Career Awareness class participated in a field trip to Union University. During the trip students toured the school of Pharmacy and the campus. Dr. Richard Addo and his staff took students through a chemistry lab where they made hand sanitizer and lip balm. Thank you to Dr. Kim Jones for helping to arrange this wonderful opportunity for SGCMS students.





Sergeant First Class Jeremy Kail visited 7th grade students in Career Exploration class. He talked with students about the different military branches, his career path in the Army, and specific careers in the army. Mr. Kail is the father of 5th grade student, Lydia Kail. Thank you so much for sharing your expertise with our students.




Students in Mrs. Malone's Career Awareness class were visited by TDOT (Tennessee Department of Transportation). Thank you to Branden Garcia, Katelyn Dziuk, Burton Hatch, Tommy Jones, and Brian Maxey for teaching 7th graders about careers in Civil Engineering, Roadway Repairs, Design, and Utilities, and Ecology/Environmental Sciences.



SGCMS 6th grade students hosted their first "Teams Call" career guest speaker last week. Students were joined via Teams by Mr. Tom Simon who is an aerospace engineer with Blue Origin in Houston, Texas. Mr. Simon shared his exciting career path which included the U.S. Navy, NASA, SpaceX, and Blue Origin. He is the cousin of 6th grader, Nate Buckner. Thank you to Mr. Simon for taking the time to tell students about careers in engineering and the military.


FFA is selling custom designed soaps from Buff City Soap for $10 each. Orders are due April 1st.


Students from SGCHS FCCLA (Family Community Career Leaders of America) introduced 5th grade students in Career Exploration to their club and Career Technical Student Organizations. Students learned about future paths of study they can pursue like human services and hospitality and tourism. Thank you to Khloe Ribble, Josephine Thornhill, Kaysey Stasel, Haylee Morris, and Allie Robling.





GCSSD wishes to extend its heartfelt congratulations to Renee Childs, who has been named Supervisor of the Year for her outstanding leadership, innovative approaches, and unwavering support for staff and students.
We also commend Margaret DeLoach, who has been honored as Principal of the Year for her exceptional commitment to academic excellence, inspiring educational initiatives, and fostering a positive school environment.

Strawberry pick-up for the Booster Club Fundraiser will be this coming Monday, March 3rd from 3-6 PM. Pick-up will be in the back parking lot at the cafeteria doors. All orders must be picked up by the seller at this time.

Students from SGCHS HOSA (Health Occupation Student Organization) spent time teaching SGCMS students about the dangers of Vaping. Farrar Grace Bankston, Elle Pennington, and Avery Boling will be participating in the state competition for HOSA this March. 6th and 7th grade students in Career Exploration learned about high school CTSO (Career Technical Student Organizations) and why they should decide right now to say “no” to vaping.





Each quarter students in 8th grade Career Exploration at SGCMS participate in the Leader’s Balanced Life Budgeting activity. Ms. Carrie Cantrell is the Community Engagement Specialist and the mother of two SGCMS students, Pierce, and Lynden. We appreciate this real-life simulation and what it teaches our students about budgeting, planning, and saving.




Mr. Marvin Sikes, the mayor of Humboldt, visited students in Mrs. Malone's Career Exploration classes. He talked with students about celebrating differences and working together toward a common goal. He challenged students to start good habits now and to focus on learning.



All middle school afterschool activities have been canceled. Tonight's Booster Club meeting has been rescheduled to Monday, March 3 at 6:00pm.
