
SGCMS is celebrating “College Application Month” by dressing up on Fridays, competing in college info trivia, and having special visits from various colleges. Ms. Sinahi Carrizales visited 7th grade Career Exploration classes today to teach students about their study options at the University of Tennessee at Martin. She spent time going over all of the areas of academic study the university has to offer and also talked about fun things like college dorm life and social activities that students can look forward to in their futures.



Parent Teacher conferences are scheduled for Monday 9/16 and Tuesday 9/17 from 3:00-6:00pm.

Parents unfortunately over the last two weeks there has been a hoax about a school shooting being sent throughout the country. If you have heard about this today regarding a South Gibson County school please be assured no threat has been made. All students are in class and we are having school as normal.

Mr. Evan Flora from Leaders Credit Union visited our 8th grade Career Awareness classes recently. Mr. Flora, who is a Community Engagement Specialist, took time to help students learn about real life budgeting by going through a Financial Reality Simulation. In this simulation, students were assigned a job, a family, an income, and bills. They were allowed to make choices throughout the “month” to create a budget with the goal of having $100 left over at the end of the month.



Mrs. Malone’s CTE class was visited by Mr. Manny Perez, who is a Learning Specialist at Tyson Foods in Humboldt, TN. Mr. Perez talked to students about careers at Tyson, his background in the industry, and how hard work and perseverance are keys to success. Mr. Perez is the father of 8th grade student, Alana Perez. Thank you so much for making learning about careers exciting and fun!






Mrs. Jules Walker and Mrs. Anndrea Dyer’s classes experimented in the science lab on heat transfer with marshmallows. Students investigated by using conduction, convection, and radiation.





Mr. Dallas Brooks, of Wing Aviation, spoke to 8th grade Career Awareness students about his career in drone technology. Mr. Brooks is the father of 8th grade student, Austin Brooks. His background includes retiring from the United States Airforce, where he worked as an Air Traffic Controller, and many other exciting jobs involving security of our nation. He now works as the Aviation Regulatory Lead for Wing Aviation that is working to do drone deliveries for Wal-Mart company.




Students in 6th, 7th, and 8th grade Career Exploration classes were visited by Mr. Jacob Kemker, who works as a Corrections Officer in Bedford County, TN. Mr. Kemker is the father of 8th grader, McKay Kemker. He took time to speak to students about his exciting and challenging career in law enforcement, corrections, and safety.

Last week in Ms. Pomeroy's STEM class, students followed the steps of the Engineering Design Process to complete the challenge of building a tower that would hold weight.

In accordance with recently passed TN law, all students are required to have a consent form on file before they can be treated by the school nurse. If your child has not already handed in their form, please print this form and return it with your child.

SGCMS Lady Hornets improved to 12-1 on the year defeating Crockett County 3-1 on Thursday.
-Adelynn Lee lead the way by pitching the complete game allowing 1 earned run, striking out 5 and going 1-3 at the plate with an rbi.

Students in Mrs. Byrd's science class have been learning about non-contact forces. Today students completed challenges in relation to center of gravity. The objective was to investigate and explain the relationship between center of gravity, height, and balance. Students participated in a "single leg wall stand challenge" and "bent over chair lift challenge."










6th graders are exploring possible career paths using “You Science” tools that match their “likes” with the 16 career clusters.
