
SGCMS 8th graders will be able to pick up their 1:1 laptops on Monday, August 26th from 4:30pm-5:30pm. Please ensure you have completed the Student Device Agreement prior to arrival using the following link: https://shorturl.at/9iYnl . Laptops will be distributed in the cafeteria annex. Parents are encouraged to park in the parking lot in the back of the building and will be able to enter the building through the back door of the cafeteria annex.

Mrs. Jules Walker’s and Mrs. Anndrea Dyer’s sixth grade science classes practiced using the scientific method in the science lab to determine which brand of paper towel absorbed the most liquid.






Parents a new law requires that all students have a consent form on file before they can be treated by the school nurse. These forms were sent home today with your students. If you wish for your child to be treated by the school nurse should the need arise, please have your child return the form to their homeroom teacher next week.

Students in Mrs. Byrd's science class completed a Skittles Lab today. The purpose of the assignment was to answer the question, "Which color skittle is most common in a package of skittles?" Students followed the scientific method to develop a hypothesis, calculate the percentage for each color, communicate the results in a bar graph and then analyze the results.








All 7th graders are required to have a Tdap booster shot and provide a copy of the TN Department of Health Certification of Immunization. This was due on the first day of school. This documentation needs to be turned in to the school nurse by the end of next week 8/16/24.

Tonight's booster club meeting has been changed to 6:30pm this evening. The meeting will be held in the cafeteria.

Due to the excessive heat, tonight's Meet the Hornets has been relocated to South Gibson County High School's gym. Athletes need to report to the high school gym area by 5:45PM. It will start at 6pm.

SGCMS Softball started off their year in Dresden with a jamboree going 3-0; defeating Camden 8-1, Dresden 19-1, Huntingdon 3-0.
-The pitching of Adelynn Lee, Kylie Tysor, Millee Prince, Stella Sanford, Ellie Webb, and Delaney Taylor along with the defense did a great job and limiting the other teams offense to virtually nothing the entire day.
⁃ Offensively the team was lead by Kenleigh Reece going 4-5 with 7rbi (including a 3 run homer), Acie Allen scoring 5 runs, Kylie Tysor and Adelynn Lee both went 3-5 with 3 rbi and Peyton Barrios going 3-5 with 2 rbi
⁃ Sgc will play again at home August 6th vs Lexington

Tryouts for tennis (6th-8th grade) will be Tuesday, August 6th and Wednesday, August 7th from 3:30-5:30 PM. Players will choose only 1 of those 2 dates to go to. Coach Escue will have a meeting in his room on Friday, August 2nd for players to indicate which tryout day they want to do. Players will need to bring their own racquet and drink to tryouts. An updated physical (completed in the past year) is required. Make up day will be Thursday, August 8th in the event of rain.
